Medicine Gathering

Medicine Gathering

Where ever you are from, all the medicines you possibly need are near you. You just might not know how to work with them. Our ancestors had a much more intimate relationship with the earth. They realized that the earth provided everything they needed to comfortably survive. Now, people see money as comfort. I’ve been blessing learning teachings and traditional knowledge from the elders in my life. My Grandfather connected me to the earth as a child, as a result, I revere and respect our planet. I see Mother Earth as one, what I do to her I do to all life.

I have been taught when you harvest or take something from the earth, you give something back. Whenever I pick sage, cedar or berries I put down tobacco to thank the earth for her blessings. I have picked a winters supply of sage and berries, and feel honored to learn how to work with our planet in a respectful way. Creator gifted the Indigenous people of North America with four sacred medicines: sage, cedar, sweetgrass and tobacco. They all have their medicinal usage. I suggest learning how to use a variety of medicines and connect back to the earth like our ancestors did.
