Lake Friendly

We have a sacred connection with water, without water there would be no life on earth. What we do to the waters, we essentially do to ourselves. In traditional Ojibway culture, women are the keepers of water. Women carry children within their bodies and are considered the protectors of water as a result of their maternal bond to life. There are many ways we all can respect water here on earth. You can shut the water off as you brush your teeth, put a container of water in the fridge to avoid wasting water running it and use tap water instead of bottled water (millions of litres of water is wasted mining for oil that plastic is derived from).

We also need to think of what we put in our water ways. Too much nitrogen and phosphorous leads to algal blooms and potential eutrophication. Buy laundry detergents without phosphorous. You can also purchase biodegradable soaps, body washes, shampoos and dish detergents. Check the labels of the products you buy to see if they’re made in North America, biodegradable and not tested on animals. Someone has to care about our earth and that someone is you!
