Balancing work, rest, play and daily responsibilities can be a challenge for most people. Often, we overcommit and spend our days in toil doing things we really don’t want to do and in the end, we feel angry and resentful. Far too many people eat their lunches at their desks not taking a physical or mental break for themselves. Make a point to get away from your desk and go for a walk during your lunch hour. Stop and say hello to some fellow co-workers, and try to get in some laughter while you’re walking around.

Our ancestors did not sit around for too long, neither should we! Sitting for more than two hours has many adverse effects on your health. Be sure to get up and move throughout your work and school day. Small changes add up to create big results. Choices as simple as taking the stairs instead of the elevator will help keep your muscles and joints in better working condition. The trick to exercise is to pick activities that you enjoy doing. Join fitness classes, sign up for boot camps, get workout DVDs, lift weights or workout with your friends and family members to keep you accountable. No matter what, challenge your heart and muscles everyday for thirty minutes with regular exercise.

Cardiovascular training is necessary to keep to heart and lungs in good working condition in order to prevent heart disease. Cardiovascular activities include walking, jogging, swimming, cross-country skiing, skating and shoveling snow. For maximum results, add resistance training to sculpt and define your muscles. Lifting weights will tone your body and improve self imagine. Many people are nervous in the gym and are fearful to look silly trying new exercises; push through your fear of criticism and make some switches to your fitness regime to reap health benefits. Remember the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be and the healthier your heart will be. A fit body is a healthy body, keep moving!
