Into the Light

Into the Light

Light will always be more powerful than dark; however, I know what it’s like to be inundated by darkness. Speaking from experience, it is extremely difficult to remain optimistic when you’re constantly around those who are unhealthy and negative. When you’ve been around these sorts of people and situations, it takes time to regain one’s strength and wellness. Darkness in thought, word and action is insidious. It truly wears one down and has a damaging effect on a person’s mind, body and soul.

I’m at a place in my life where I no longer tolerate those who intentionally try to tear me down. It’s too exhausting and unnecessary. My counsellor recently told me, she’s so impressed by the ways I face my anxiety with positive self-talk, praying, having an incredible team and bringing people into my life who remind me of my worth.

Today, I received a phone call from my favourite Member of the Legislative Assembly. She is going to honour me in the House with a Member Statement showcasing the work Creator blesses me to. Automatically, I had a little cry and contacted my Granny, Mom, Sponsor and Infinity Women Secretariat Board. I know there are many powerful people who support, guide and love me, and it’s those people I need closest.

Last night I prayed that Spirit, my Ancestors and Protectors keep hurt men and people off my path to allow me to continue to do the work I’m here to do without harm. I know for certain, Spirit has protected me this past year as I’m being given the opportunity to heal and take care of myself without being in toxic environments that kill my Spirit.

Thank you to all of you who have voted for me in the CBC’s Searchlight. I’m truly humbled by the love and support I receive, it’s quite overwhelming at times and I want you to know, I appreciate you.

At this time, we have to stand together and think love is always stronger than darkness. I think of Joaquin Phoenix using his Oscar speech as an opportunity to speak for the Earth, animals and injustice; it gives me hope that we as a species are moving into the light.

I send you my love and prayers that you feel loved, supported and have people in your life you share your good hearts and spirits with. I pray for a partnership where I can be myself, seek shelter from life’s storms, know I’m loved not judged and am equal. Spirit sends us what we need, but first and foremost we must be there for ourselves.

“I think whether we’re talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or Indigenous rights or animal rights, we’re talking about the fight against injustice. We’re talking about the fight against the belief that one nation, one people, one race, one gender or one species has the right to dominate, control or use and exploit another with impunity.” Joaquin Phoenix
