Good Heart

Good Heart

Teaching children the value of empathy is one of the greatest gifts we can give to them. Children have to be taught how to make friends that are kind, caring and warm hearted; people who genuinely care about their well-being.

We must teach them to avoid making friendships with people who are competitive, chaotic, greedy, critical and mean spirited. Making healthy friendships has to be modelled and taught.

Having a good heart in a world that conditions us to be cruel is a blessing. What does it mean to have a good heart? That’s something to ponder and think about. Certainly, you can feel the warmth of someone’s heart and know when you’re dealing with a kind person.

Take care of your heart, nurture and guard it! Your heart is a gem which you are responsible for. It’s time we instil healthy, positive friendships for our children. Do your best not to gossip around them and model what it is like to be a good friend. One of the most beautiful Indigenous teachings I have received is to be a person of the heart. What else could you ask for in a friend or lover?
