Self respect is powerful. Once you attain self respect you participate in life differently. The people, places and things that you were once attractive are no longer of interest. No longer entertaining things that diminish you has a way of changing one’s life.
Truly, I had to grieve this summer the fact things I once tolerated were not going to cut it anymore and there were situations that will not repeat themselves. That means, I am not the same person I once was and there is a part of me that is gone and let go of.
Respect speaks for itself. Self love shines from the inside out. How does one suddenly start to love and respect themselves? It’s a process, a gradual shift that happens if you’re willing to change the way you think and behave.
Above all, one must be honest with themselves. Once honesty becomes a way of life, there is no longer denying what isn’t working. There is way too much of an onus put on finding the perfect partner than being a healthy partner (first to ourselves). When you are able to met your own needs, say how you feel and not rely on someone else for your happiness; a shift has taken place.
It took sobriety, no longer being dishonest with myself and a willingness to look at the parts of my life and family patterns that weren’t healthy. No longer entertaining that which didn’t serve my worth has had the most profound impacts upon my life.
I hope we can all do what is necessary to love and forgive ourselves and the dysfunctional patterns we carry from our families without even knowing; face the parts that aren’t healthy and learn new ways to thrive. We are so blessed to be at a place where we no longer suffering religious, domestic and a plethora of abuses that generations before us had to endure with no safe place to take it.
We live in a powerful time where we have the opportunity to raise our children healthily and instill self love, worth and respect as part of their development. Self respect is possible; granted you no longer entertain that which does not serve you. ❤️
