Cherish Water

Cherish Water

What an incredible experience to be able to walk with my students, administrator, parents and community support worker to honor the Red River. I would say, it was one of my absolute favorite teaching moments hearing my students sing a Dakota water song on their own as I prayed over our offering. For those of you who do not know what it is to make an offering to the water, it is a way to pray for the healing of our Earth’s sacred water offering traditional Indigenous medicines (Sage, Cedar, Sweet Grass and Tobacco) to aid in the healing .

It was powerful to see over 20 people coming together in prayer on the banks of the Red River. The teachings these students and families have received they will carry with them their whole lives for that I am most grateful. As an educator, I have an amazing opportunity to help develop the mind, body and spirit of the children I am blessed to teach. How things are evolving and changing within the education system and it is humbling to be part of that change.

For a better understanding of Water Ceremony teachings from several of the elders I have been blessed to learn from.
