The Story You Tell Yourself

The Story You Tell Yourself

Have you ever made a mistake? How do you treat yourself after you’ve done something “wrong?” Is it useful to beat ourselves up repeatedly when we make a mistake? No, it isn’t. Instead of shaming one’s self, it’s important to ask yourself what was that about and what was going on behind that choice?

By no means is anyone perfect, it’s impossible and exhausting trying to be perfect. I know, I am learning to be less critical of myself and refrain from doing things that don’t bring out my best self.

In terms of the stories we tell ourselves, it’s essential to keep them positive and empowering. I have made mistakes in my life. I definitely regret many decisions I’ve made in my personal life. Instead of feeling less than, I am working on my inner dialogue and getting to the root of my behaviours. First things first, we must love ourselves. I swear learning to love and value myself has made for better decision making.

I know I still have work to do. By no means do I have it all figured out, but I sure appreciate realizing that I have a choice in the story I tell myself and the decisions I make. Keep your circle small, only allow people you trust near you and do not date people who do not love and respect themselves.

Make it a goal to be able to look yourself in the eyes and say, I love you. When you can do that, I stand by my word and say your entire life will change. Happiness is a choice, and I’m choosing to be happier on a more regular basis; I hope you are too. Make sure the story you tell yourself is good one!
