Faithfulness

Faithfulness

At this time in our culture, faithfulness seems to be a thing of the past. However, I disagree. I think we are bombarded with messages and images that convey to us that it’s acceptable and tolerable to completely disrespect one person as long as one’s immediate needs are meet. Honesty is something that has to be cultivated. I now know from experience that people with addictions are dishonest. If someone is dishonest in one area of their life, dishonesty will saturate the rest of their life.

If you want a loving, functional relationship there has to be a spiritual foundation two build people their life upon. Spirituality is not religion; spirituality is respect, love, kindness, forgiveness and compassion.

Who do you have to become to have a functional relationship? If you keep ending up in the same relationships with the same sort of person, when are you going to do the inner work necessary to change who and what you attract into your life? Honesty and kindness are two of the most important qualities I look for in any relationship without those there is no basis for friendship let alone intimacy.

“Being faithful to one’s partner and honouring one’s commitments through thick and thin goes beyond mere social convention. It reinforces and supports one’s spiritual priorities. By honouring commitment, we are acknowledging that real happiness comes through spiritual fulfillment, that chasing happiness at the cost of our responsibilities is a delusion that leads us the wrong way.” M Singh

Listen to the way a person speaks and watch how they behave, if you don’t respect their values, then think long and hard about what is sacred to you. Hurting someone without regard shows that a person’s spiritual priorities are off-course; those are the one’s to avoid!
