Recently, a younger cousin and I went on a trip to the United States which most of our trip revolved around shopping. I grew up under the same conditioning as most teens where the mall was the number one place to pass time. Granted, it took a connection to self and spirituality to undue the belief system that I had to buy my worth in the form of materialism.
There is a time and place to meet one’s material needs. This past week, I seen people constantly looking at their phones and hiding behind the false guise of connection. It was actually unnerving to witness how tuned out to the natural world many currently are.
I would much rather socialize with my actual friends in nature or as close to natural settings. As an avid beach lover, I spend much of my summer near water. I find it both healing and relaxing. I would much rather spend my days outside than cooped up in a mall or outlet store searching for something to instantly gratify some unmet need while constantly checking my notifications and grasping for attention and worth.
The answers lie within our connection to ourselves and our spiritual relationships to the natural world and Higher Power. I pray sooner than later people tap into those powerful universal sources of connection.
