Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” If you know something is wrong, do what you can to improve the situation. Right now, animals are being tested on in labs, they’re being illegally hunted for their furs and body parts, animals are being forced to perform and fight each other for human entertainment and they are being inhumanely held captive for human consumption.
The underlying reason why animals are enduring so much global suffering has to do with greed. Humans have become too comfortable in the belief that animals have been put on earth for our usage. Many people have lost their connection to the spirits of animals as living beings. Indigenous cultures still see the innate spiritual connection to our animal brothers and sisters.
If you see an animal outside and not being sheltered properly, call your local animal services. Eat a meatless meal every few days, purchase free range animal products, foster an animal, ditch dairy, donate to charities that improve the quality of animals’ lives, write a letter to a level of government and demand that animal protection laws be adhered to, and report poachers. Do your best to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
